On 24 October, 2024, the newly established School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) celebrated its official inauguration with a vibrant opening ceremony.

On 30 August 2024, our newly established School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) celebrated its inaugural gathering, bringing together faculty and administrative staff from the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics & Actuarial Science. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a collaborative journey aimed at fostering innovation and multidisciplinary research.

This workshop provides comprehensive coverage of five different topics in the field of AI. The first topic deals with real-world AI applications and highlights the important role of AI in developing and improving the modeling of user behavior in recommender systems. The second theme looks at the immersive world of the metaverse and explores its potential to enhance and reshape our everyday experiences. The third theme looks at computer vision, covering fundamental concepts and techniques from both traditional geometric approaches and recent advances in deep learning. The fourth topic looks at the fascinating journey of Large Language Models (LLMs), tracing their historical context and evolution as indispensable tools for natural language processing. Finally, the workshop explores Wireless Sensing AI, a breakthrough technology that extends machine perception beyond vision by using AI to transform Wi-Fi devices into a versatile all-in-one sensing platform.

The world is highly complex and full of uncertain events. How can we formulate and answer questions when things seem to be so random? In this 5-day workshop, we will give you the practical experience of how to use the rigorous tools of statistics to address this question. You will learn the language of probability and its paradoxes, the causes and dangers of bias and how to predict the future and make decisions.

A big shout out to Prof. Chao HUANG and his research team for having four papers listed as the Most Influential Papers in Version 2024-05 in The Web Conference (WWW) & ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval (SIGIR). These prestigious conferences are renowned for Data Science, Information Retrieval, and Web Intelligence. Their papers, with Prof. HUANG being the corresponding author, received top rankings in ACM WWW 2023, ACM SIGIR 2023, and ACM SIGIR 2021 for their impactful research work.

Congratulations to the following Professors for receiving the General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) from Research Grants Council (RGC) in the 2024/25 Exercise. They are entitled to HKD$8.8M in total for the proposed projects.
