Inaugural School of Computing and Data Science Gathering

On 30 August 2024, our newly established School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) celebrated its inaugural gathering, bringing together faculty and administrative staff from the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics & Actuarial Science. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a collaborative journey aimed at fostering innovation and multidisciplinary research.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Professor Yi MA, the Director of CDS. In his address, Professor Ma expressed his enthusiasm for the new School, highlighting the importance of uniting the two departments under one roof. He announced the launch of the CDS logo, a modern symbol that reflects the School’s dynamic future and its commitment to excellence in computing and data science.

A ceremonial toast was then made to celebrate the new beginnings. CDS members enjoyed a delightful afternoon filled with networking opportunities, including ice-breaking games and casual mingling, designed to spark new connections and collaborative ideas.

This inaugural gathering not only celebrated the formation of the CDS family but also laid the groundwork for a vibrant academic community dedicated to driving innovation and excellence in the fields of computing and data science. We look forward to many more successful events as we embark on this exciting new journey together.
