Two PhD students from CDS have been awarded the 2024 Signal Processing Society (SPS) Scholarships, in recognition of their dedication to pursuing signal processing education and real-world experience.

The awardees, Mr Luca Jiangtao YU, a second-year doctoral student, and Miss Sitong SHEN, a first-year doctoral student, are both supervised by Professor Chenshu WU.

Luca’s research primarily focuses on the Artificial Intelligence of Things, particularly in the areas of machine learning for signal processing, millimeter wave radar, and acoustic sensing applications. Sitong specialises in developing battery-free sensor networks aimed at creating sustainable low-power monitoring systems.

The SPS, the first society established by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is the world’s leading professional organisation for signal processing scientists and practitioners. This year, the SPS scholarship supports 45 outstanding students, with each recipient receiving a scholarship of US$1,500.
