Professor Ruibang LUO recognised with HKU Outstanding Young Researcher Award

Professor Ruibang LUO has been honoured with the Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2023-2024 by HKU for demonstrating exceptional quality in his research endeavours.

Professor Ruibang LUO, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Programme Director of the Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, has been honoured with the Outstanding Young Researcher Award 2023-2024 by HKU.

 

The University presents annual awards for research excellence through the Outstanding Researcher Awards Scheme, which aims to recognise, honour and reward exceptional research contributions by faculty members. The Outstanding Young Researcher Award is specifically designed to commend young researchers who have exhibited exceptional quality in their research endeavours.

 

Professor Luo’s research is primarily focused on bioinformatics algorithms and clinical informatics. He has published over 80 papers, ten of which have garnered more than a thousand citations. His achievements include being recognised as a Top 1% Scholar Worldwide by Clarivate Analytics from 2019 to 2023 and being selected as one of the Worldwide Top 150 Chinese Young Scholars in Artificial Intelligence by Baidu Research. Additionally, he was named among the Top 10 Innovators Under 35 in Asia Pacific by MIT Technology Review in 2019, and featured in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia in Healthcare and Science in 2017.

 

Professor Luo obtained a Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics from HKU in 2015. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center of Computational Biology at Johns Hopkins University before joining HKU.
