Scholarships are available for local and non-local students at all levels
We’re committed to nurturing students of different programmes of the School, rewarding them for their academic and non-academic excellence with more than 40 entrance scholarships. Ranging from HK$20,000 to HK$300,000, these entrance scholarships support and recognise the achievement and potential of our students. We also offer a wide range of scholarships to students across various years of study, empowering them to pursue their academic and career aspirations with confidence.

Up to six scholarships shall be awarded annually to first-year students in the three programmes, based on academic performance in prevailing public examinations for admissions to the University. HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology is one of the initiatives of the HKU-SCF FinTech Academy, supported by the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation. Up to eight scholarships, including entrance scholarships valued at HK$50,000 each and full scholarships valued at HK$200,000 each, are offered exclusively to local students admitted to the BASc (Financial Technology) programme with outstanding academic performance. The full scholarships shall be offered subject to satisfactory academic performance being maintained during the normative period of study. |

Dr Patrick S C Poon, SBS, Honorary University Fellow of HKU, generously pledged to establish a scholarship scheme to encourage young talents to pursue a career in the actuarial profession and to promote the development of actuarial science in Hong Kong. Five awards shall be awarded annually to first-year BSc (Actuarial Science) students newly admitted through JUPAS with the most outstanding entrance record. Each scholarship is valued at HK$50,000, whilst an additional HK$10,000 will be awarded to successful candidates who have achieved Level 5** in HKDSE English Language or who require expedient financial assistance during their studies. The scholarship is renewable based on satisfactory performance in each year of study. |

Two scholarships, valued at HK$20,000 each, shall be awarded annually to students who have completed his/her second-year or third-year study in BASc (Applied Artificial Intelligence) programme based on their university examination results.
Yu Kam Tim Chan Siu Hing Award in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
Mr Yu Kam Tim and Mrs Yu Chan Siu Hing, both alumni of the Faculty of Science, pledged to establish an award scheme for outstanding undergraduates in the BASc (Applied Artificial Intelligence) programme and BSc (Decision Analytics)*. Dr CHEUNG Wah Kenny Jacky pledged an initial sum of HK$100,000 to establish an academic prize for outstanding students pursuing the BASc (Financial Technology) degree. Two prizes, valued at HK$5,000 each, shall be awarded annually to Year 2 or above students in the aforesaid programme on the basis of academic merit.

Sir Edward Johnston Prize (awarded by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK)
The Sir Edward Johnston Prize is awarded to the best performing graduating students on the actuarial programmes at five universities in South East Asia, including HKU, which are linked to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).
The Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong Scholarship
The Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong and The LUA Foundation Limited have both pledged an aggregate annual donation to support outstanding undergraduate students. Two scholarships, valued at HK$10,000 each, shall be awarded annually to Year 2 or above local students in the BSc (Actuarial Science) or BSc (Risk Management)* based on academic merit with cumulative GPA3.2 or above. In cases of students of equal academic merit, participation of community service shall also be taken into consideration.
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Scholarship
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Educational Trust kindly pledged an annual donation to support scholarships for BSc (Actuarial Science) undergraduates at HKU, with the objective of encouraging tertiary education in insurance. Up to six scholarships, valued at HK$20,000 each, shall be awarded annually to outstanding BSc (Actuarial Science) Year 3 or above local students.
YF Life Scholarship in Actuarial Science and Risk Management
YF Life Insurance International Limited kindly pledged to establish the YF Life Scholarship in Actuarial Science and Risk Management at HKU, with an objective of nurturing talents for the insurance industry. Five scholarships, valued at HK$15,000 each, shall be awarded annually to outstanding BSc (Actuarial Science) or BSc (Risk Management)* students on the basis of academic merit and performance in an interview, if arranged by the Selection Committee.

Three scholarships, valued at HK$20,000 each, shall be awarded annually to outstanding BSc (Decision Analytics)*, BSc (Risk Management)*, BSc (Statistics)* students on the basis of academic merit (with CGPA 3.0 or above) and who have been accepted to exchange or enrichment programmes organised by the University.
Saw Prize in Statistics
To commemorate his 1969-71 stay at the University and to promote the development of statistics, Professor Saw Swee Hock pledged to establish a prize to be awarded in the form of a gold medal in 1971, which was converted to a cash prize in 2017. One prize of HK$8,000 shall be awarded annually to a final-year BSc (Decision Analytics)*, BSc (Risk Management)* or BSc (Statistics)* student, and who has obtained First Class Honours and the highest average marks in the papers taken for Statistics courses.

In 2005, Professor Saw Swee Hock, founding Professor of Statistics of the University from 1969 to 1971, donated a capital sum of HK$300,000 to set up a scholarship in recognition of the academic achievement of BSc (Decision Analytics)*, BSc (Risk Management)* and BSc (Statistics)* graduates. Two scholarships of HK$5,000 each shall be awarded annually, on the basis of academic merit (with CGPA 3.0 or above), to outstanding graduates of the aforesaid programmes.

Computer Science Taught Postgraduate Scholarship for Part-time Students
The Scholarship partially supports part-time students reading for a Master of Science in Electronic Commerce and Internet Computing, Master of Science in Computer Science, or Master of Science in Financial Technology and Data Analytics at HKU. The value of each scholarship shall be at least 25% of the tuition fee.
HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology
The HKU-SCF FinTech Academy offers five scholarships, each valued at HK$60,000, exclusively for MSc(FTDA) and MSc(CompSc) [Financial Computing Stream] students. The scholarships are supported by the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation (SCF).
Master of Science in Computer Science Hong Kong Scholarship
The Scholarship partially supports full-time Hong Kong students reading for a Master of Science in Computer Science at HKU. A maximum of ten scholarships, each valued up to HK$78,000.
International Postgraduate Scholarship for Computer Science
The Scholarship fully or partially supports full-time overseas students reading for a Master of Science in Computer Science at HKU. A maximum of five scholarships, each valued up to HK$156,000.
The China Postgraduate Scholarships for Computer Science
The China Postgraduate Scholarships for Computer Science partially supports full-time mainland students reading for a Master of Science in Computer Science at HKU. A maximum of 30 scholarships, each valued up to HK$30,000.
Belt and Road Scholarship in Statistics and Data Science (Taught Postgraduate)
Six scholarships will be awarded annually to new students who are from one of the participating Belt and Road countries and have enrolled in the Master of Data Science programme or Master of Statistics programme, on the basis of academic merit and financial need upon admission. Each scholarship shall entail waiver of the composition fees of the programme, with an additional allowance for the cost of living and travel expenses.
Entrance Scholarship for the Master of Data Science
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science established an entrance scholarship for new students of the Master of Data Science programme in recognition of their outstanding achievements upon admission. A maximum of ten scholarships, each valued at HK$20,000, will be awarded annually to new students on the basis of academic merit and financial need upon admission.
Entrance Scholarship for the Master of Statistics
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science established an entrance scholarship for students of the Master of Statistics programme in recognition of their outstanding achievements upon admission. A maximum of 40 scholarships, each valued at HK$20,000, will be awarded annually to new students on the basis of academic merit, financial need upon admission and, if necessary, interview performance.
Lifelong Learning Prizes in Data Science
A total of 15 scholarships, each valued at HK$5,000 or HK$10,000, will be awarded to students who are pursuing the Master of Data Science degree, based on their first-year examination results for full-time students and their first two years examination results for part-time students.
Lifelong Learning Prizes in Statistics
A total of 15 scholarships, each valued at HK$5,000 or HK$10,000, will be awarded to students who are pursuing the Master of Statistics degree, based on their first semester examination results for full-time students and their first-year examination results for part-time students.
Master of Data Science Outstanding Performance Award
An award of HK$50,000 will be made annually to one student of the Master of Data Science programme, who has completed the programme on the basis of academic merit and quality of coursework.
Master of Statistics Outstanding Performance Scholarship
A scholarship of HK$50,000 will be made annually to one student of the Master of Statistics programme on the basis of academic merit and quality of coursework.
